SCRIPTURE on the theme of Courage
And Moses said to the people, Fear not: for Elohim is come to prove you, and that his fear may be before your faces, that you sin not.
Behold, YHWH your Elohim has set the land before you: go up and possess the land, as YHWH Elohim of your fathers has said to you; "Fear not, neither be discouraged.
And Moses gave JAHshua the son of Nun a charge, and said, Be strong and of a good courage: for you shall bring the children of Israel into the land which I swore to them: and I will be with you.
I have commanded you: Be strong and courageous; do not be terrified; do not be discouraged: for YHWH your Elohim is with you wherever you go.
So JAHshua came with his people of war, by the waters of Merom, and suddenly fell upon the enemy.
Second Samuel 1:22
From the blood of the slain, the fat of the mighty, the bow of Jonathan turned not back, and the sword of Saul returned not empty.
Second Samuel 1:23
Saul and Jonathan were lovely and pleasant alive, and in death undivided: swifter than eagles, stronger than lions.
note: Saul<07586> and Jonathan<03083> were lovely<0157>(8737) and pleasant<05273> in their lives<02416>, and in their death<04194> they were not divided<06504>(8738): they were swifter<07043>(8804) than eagles<05404>, they were stronger<01396>(8804) than lions<0738>.*n
And I said, Should such a man as I flee? and who is there, that, being as I am, would go into the temple to save his life? I will not go in.
I will not be afraid of ten thousand people, who have taken their stand against me, surrounding me.
Be not afraid of sudden fear, neither of the desolation of the wicked, when it comes.
Fret not yourself because of evil men, neither be you envious of the wicked;
The wicked flee when no man pursues: but the righteous are bold as a lion.
An old lion, mighty among beasts, retreats from nothing;
A greyhound; a male goat also; and a king, against whom there is no rising up.
Therefore thus said Adonai YHWH of hosts, O my people who dwell in Zion, be not afraid of the Assyrian: he shall smite you with a rod, and shall lift up his staff against you, after the manner of Egypt.
You therefore gird up your loins, and arise, and speak to them all that I command you: be not dismayed at their faces, lest I confound you before them.
And they shall fight against you; but they shall not prevail against you; for I am with you," said YHWH, "to deliver you."
According to the Word that I covenanted with you when you came out of Egypt, so my Spirit remains among you: fear not.
This same John wore clothing made of camel's hair, and a leather belt around his waist. John's food was locusts and wild honey.
So never fear your enemies. Everything secret will be brought out into the open. Everything hidden will be uncovered.
Never fear [people.] People [can only] kill meat-bodies. People are totally unable to kill the soul. Rather fear Him [YHVH] who is able to destroy both soul and body in "hell. "
note: Hell is Gei-Hinnom, the trash and weed fire of the universe. Hell is permanent destruction, not conscious eternal torment.
So never be afraid. You are worth more than many sparrows.
And he who fails to pick up his impaling-stake and follow after Me [to torture and death for obeying YHVH] is not worthy of Me.
But immediately Yahshua spoke to his disciples, saying, "Courage! It is I. Never be afraid."
Yahshua came and touched [Peter, James & John], and said, "Arise; never be afraid."
[The soldiers] offered Yahshua a [mild painkiller] (a mixture of wine and myrrh.) But when Yahshua tasted it, He [spat it out] and refused to drink it.
note: This is the toughest man who ever lived.
The angel said to the women, "Fear not! For I know that you seek Yahshua, who was crucified.
John [the Baptizer] wore clothes of camel’s hair, with a leather belt around his waist. John ate locusts & wild honey.
Yahshua was sleeping [peacefully] with His head on a cushion at the back of the [rocking, sinking] boat. [Frantically] the disciples woke Yahshua, shouting, 'Teacher, don't you even care that we are going to drown?'
But Yahshua ignored the [unbelievers' faithless] comments. Yahshua told the ruler of the synagogue, "Don't be afraid; just believe."
note: It's best to ignore most of what faithless people say.
The soldiers offered Yahshua to drink [a painkiller,] wine drugged with myrrh, but Yahshua refused to drink [the intoxicating drugs.]
note: Yahshua was the toughest man who ever lived.
The angel comforted Mary, "Fear not, Mary: for you have found favor with [YHVH] The Eloha.
The angel said to the shepherds, "Fear not! See! I bring you good news of great joy for all people!
[No?] Then what did you go out to see? [Did you think John would be] a man clothed in soft [fine] apparel? Look! People who dress in gorgeous clothing, and live delicately [in luxury] are in royal palaces, [not eating bugs and wearing hand-cut camel-fur and screaming "repent" in the desert.]
As the time drew near for Yahshua's Ascension [to heaven], Yahshua resolutely set his face and went to [be murdered in] Jerusalem.
note: Knowing the religious hypocrites there would kill him.
Yahshua answered the [pretender preacher] Pharisees, "You go and tell that [worthless, conniving, destructive, insignificant, transvestite] fox [Herod that Yahshua says,] 'Look- [today] I cast out devils, and I do cures today & tomorrow, and the third day I will be perfected.
note: The Real King calls the transvestite 'king' an animal. Would you talk that boldly to a corrupt governor? Herod would have been terrified, thinking that "perfected" meant that Yahshua would steal the throne from Herod in 3 days, which in a sense Yahshua did. "To the Jew the fox was a symbol of 3 things: 1: slyest of animals. 2: most destructive of animals. 3rd: a worthless, insignificant man”. (Barclay)
Yahshua [shot out that condemnation of religious phonies], then he marched straight up to [get murdered by the religionists and their political and military puppets in] Jerusalem.
note: Marching to his death.
Within the hearing of all the people, [while you could hear a pin drop,] Yahshua said to His disciples,
One of the Jewish rulers of the Pharisee sect, named Nicodemus, [hid from his corrupt paid-preacher party members who hated Yahshua] and, under cover of dark night, [secretly] traveled to see Yahshua.
Yahshua called out to His disciples, "It's Me! Don't be afraid!"
Then, midway through the festival, Yahshua [defied the threat of murder hanging all around Him and] ran right up to the Temple and began to teach.
Look! Yahshua speaks boldly, and the [murderous rogue priests] say nothing to Him. Have the 'authorities' actually concluded that ['Yahshua Josephson'] is the MessiYah?
Nicodemus (who had visited Yahshua [under cover of] night [for fear of] his fellow Pharisees), said to the chief priests and [liar-preacher] Pharisees:
And Yahshua, [risking his life, drawing another murder attempt, boldly] walked [right into his assassin's territory] in the temple area, down Solomon's Colonnade.
Yahshua's disciples protested to Yahshua, "Master, the Jews just tried to throw rocks [at your head until you were dead, bleeding and broken on the ground!] And you're going back to Judea?"
Then, 6 days before the passover, Yahshua traveled back [from his covert operations camp in the desert] to Bethany [2 miles from the hostile enemy headquarters of Jerusalem.] There Yahshua saw the man He had raised from the dead (Elazar.)
Now my soul is troubled! Yet what [do you think I] I will say? "Father, save me from this hour [of pain?]" No! I came [to earth] to go through this time of [torture, rejection, betrayal, and death.]"
men who have hazarded their lives for the Name of our Master Yahshua, [YAH's] MessiYah.
Paul told the soldiers, "The judges have, without trial, openly beaten us Rhomaios [men] and cast us into prison; and now they thrust us out secretly? No! Let the judges come themselves and fetch us out.
note: The word "citizen" is often incorrectly inserted here in Bible translations. "Citizen" can mean "freeman", but in decaying cultures, "citizen" comes to mean "legally-bound subject." Paul was not "Roman" in the sense of being a legally-bound subject-citizen of Rome, for Paul had been born again into the Kingdom of YHVH and therefore any association between Paul and Rome was strictly due to his physical body having originated in a territory (Tarsus) claimed by Rome.
Then Adonai spoke to Paul in the night by a vision: "Do not be afraid. Speak. Do not be silent,
Then Paul answered, "Why do you weep and to break my heart? For I am ready not only to be bound, but also to die at Jerusalem for the name of Adonai Yahshua."
Soon we packed our luggage and went up to Jerusalem.
note: Marching knowingly to their probable deaths.
Paul called one of the centurions and said, "Bring this young man to the chief captain. The [young man] has something to tell the captain."
Paul answered, "I stand at Caesar's judgment seat, where I ought to be tried: to the Jews have I done no wrong, as you very well know.
The shipsmen cut loose the anchors and left them in the sea, then untied the ropes that held the rudders, then they hoisted the foresail to the wind and sailed for the beach.
1st Corinthians 16:13
Be on your guard; stand firm in the faith; behave as men of courage; be strong.
2nd Corinthians 3:12
Since this [new covenant] gives us such confidence, we can be very bold.
Finally, my brothers, be strong, united with Adonai, wrapped in His mighty power.
And pray for me, that [YAH] will give me [His] Words, so I will open my mouth boldly, to make known the mysteries of the Good News,
Also, my being in prison has given confidence to most of the brothers (who are united with the Adonai), so that they have become much more bold in fearlessly speaking the Word.
For I live in eager expectation that I will never be ashamed. I hope to always be totally bold, so now and always, my actions in this body will honor the Messiah, whether I live or I die.
For to me to live is the MessiYah, and to die is gain.
Suppose I go on living in this body. Then I will be able to carry on my work. It will bear a lot of fruit. But what should I choose? I don't know.
note: Only YAH can say when it's time for me to die. I'll take life or death, whatever YAH chooses.
And never, no matter what, be terrified by your adversaries. Your courage will shine a clear sign in their faces: that Elohim will save you and destroy your enemies.
Likewise, [if they continue to imprison, beat, and even kill me,] you too should be glad and rejoice with me.
2nd Timothy 1:7
For Elohim has not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, of love, and a sound mind.
1st Peter 3:14
If you suffer suffer for being righteous, you are blessed! As Isaiah says, "Don't fear what others call 'Terror.' Never be afraid."
note: (Isaiah 8:12)'
1 Maccabees 2:16
And when many of Israel came to the tax collectors, MattathiYah also and his sons came together.
1 Maccabees 2:19
Then MattathiYah answered and spoke with a loud voice, "Though all the nations that are under the king's dominion obey him, and fall away every one from the religion of their fathers, and give consent to his commandments:
1 Maccabees 2:24
Which thing when MattathiYah saw, he was inflamed with zeal, and his reins trembled, neither could he forbear to show his anger according to judgment: wherefore he ran, and slew the idolater upon the altar.
1 Maccabees 2:25
Also at that time MattathiYah killed the king's [tax] commissioner, who compelled men to sacrifice, and MattathiYah pulled down the altar.
note: MattathiYah killed the King's Tax Commissioner, and tore up their tax-collection headquarters.
1 Maccabees 2:26
Thus MattathiYah dealt zealously for the law of Elohim like as Phinees did to Zambri the son of Salom.
1 Maccabees 2:27
And MattathiYah cried throughout the city with a loud voice, saying, "Whoever is zealous of the law, and maintains the covenant, let him follow me.
1 Maccabees 2:45
Then MattathiYah and his friends went round about, and pulled down the [Greek's] altars:
1 Maccabees 2:47
They pursued also after the proud men, and the work prospered in their hand.
1 Maccabees 2:48
So they recovered the law out of the hand of the Gentiles, and out of the hand of kings, neither suffered they the sinner to triumph.
1 Maccabees 2:50
Now therefore, my sons, be you zealous for the law, and give your lives for the covenant of your fathers.
1 Maccabees 2:51
Call to remembrance what acts our fathers did in their time; so shall you receive great honor and an everlasting name.
1 Maccabees 2:54
Phinees our father in being zealous and fervent obtained the covenant of an everlasting priesthood.
1 Maccabees 3:1
Then MattathiYah's son Judah, called Maccabeus, rose up in MattathiYah's stead.
note: Y'hudhah HamMakabi: Judah the Hammer.
1 Maccabees 3:4
In Hammer's acts he was like a lion, and like a lion's whelp roaring for his prey.
1 Maccabees 3:6
Wherefore the wicked shrunk for fear of Hammer, and all the workers of iniquity were troubled, because salvation prospered in Hammer's hand.
1 Maccabees 3:16
And when Seron came near to the going up of Bethhoron, Judah the Hammer went forth to meet Seron with a small company:
1 Maccabees 3:23
Now as soon as Hammer had left off speaking, Hammer leapt suddenly upon the Syrians, and so Seron and his host were overthrown before Hammer.
1 Maccabees 3:59
For it is better for us to die in battle, than to behold the calamities of our people and our sanctuary.
1 Maccabees 4:6
But as soon as it was day, Judah the Hammer showed himself in the plain with three thousand men, who nevertheless had neither armor nor swords to their minds.
1 Maccabees 4:8
Then said Judah the Hammer to the men who were with him, "Fear you not their multitude, neither be you afraid of their assault.
1 Maccabees 5:42
Now when Judas came near the brook, he caused the scribes of the people to remain by the brook: to whom he gave commandment, saying, "Suffer no man to remain in the camp, but let all come to the battle."
1 Maccabees 5:56
