Natural Cough Remedies

Illness The simplest natural remedy for coughs was taught to us by a wise Amish man whose 6 healthy, glowing children have never taken a single drug, vaccine, or pill of any kind, nor ever seen a doctor.
The cough cure is a model of Amish simplicity:
Just DRINK water EVERY time you cough.
Cough, drink, cough, drink, until the cough is gone.
Lung infections usually clear up if you're sufficiently hydrated.
If your throat is getting raw you can add some olive oil to the water.

Another terrific natural remedy was taught to us by remote Latin American villagers:
For Tos (cough)
4 cucharada granda Miel (4 tablespoons honey)
4 cucharada granda jugo de limon (4 tablespoons lemon juice)
1 cucharadita (teaspoon)whiskey (or rum)

For a stronger potion, mix the above in equal parts and add a liquefied raw onion in no more than an equal part.

Tastes kinda' weird but it works!

Drink whenever the cough comes on.

Also have someone rub and pound on the back and chest repeatedly during the course of the day and as needed at night to aid in loosening of the obstructions that are causing the cough.
While they pound, if you lay upside down so that the infection drains by gravity out of your lungs, you'll get better faster.

Here are a few other ideas:
You can make an excellent soothing natural cough remedy by mixing equal parts honey and lemon juice. Take a tablespoonful every couple of hours to soothe the soreness.

If you also have a little congestion you can add some whiskey, gin or vodka with the above mixture - usually one part alcohol with two parts of the honey and lemon mixture. Keep your natural cough remedy in the refrigerator.

Organically processed cocoa/ chocolate has theobromine which is an excellent cough suppressant

Here are some suggestions for preventing bronchitis
* don't smoke and avoid places where there are people who smoke
* limit the amount of processed dairy products (clean raw milk is fine but not pasteurized, homogenized milk)
* take extra vitamin C every day (1,000 to 4,000mg)
* drink 8 to 10 glasses of clean water every day
* sleep with your head elevated (use extra pillows or elevate the head of your bed)
* use tissue instead of handkerchiefs (handkerchiefs harbor bacteria)
* keep a bottle of PLAIN Robitussin on hand and use it at the first sign of coughing

If you are plagued with frequent bouts of bronchitis ask your doctor for a prescription of SSKI (saturated solution of potassium iodide). Keep it on hand and use it the minute you feel the coughing start. It is an excellent natural cough remedy and it may help you avoid the infections that so often accompany bronchitis. Add 0.6ml of SSKI to water or juice and chug it down 4 or 5 times a day. It is a very stable substance so you can keep it in your medicine chest for years.
Unfiltered organic apple cider vinegar. I had been sick for about a week and started taking shots of this before each meal. The very next day I was fine. Since then I drink a glass of water with about 2 tablespoons of the vinegar (with a bunch of honey to mask the terrible taste) every morning
Someone said:
For a cough that's not serious, but is annoying I always use the following:

1/4 tsp cayenne pepper
1/2 tsp ginger
1/4 tsp cloves
2 T. honey (or to taste)
2 T. water
1 T. apple cider vinegar

Take 3 tsp. when needed.
Someone else said:
Take one clove of garlic-as big a piece as you can comfortably swallow as a pill-every 3-6 hours, in addition to any of the above remedies. It's antiseptic and antibiotic.

If accompanied by a sore throat, my teen-aged son chews the clove (VERY spicy!) then swallows, but it works within hours everytime!
